Woods Walk and Artisan Market

June 3 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Spend a day at Martin’s Lumber. Scheduled Wood Walks along with a gallery of artists will be offered throughout the day. Separate walks on mushrooms, plants and the forest continue while the artisans offer a variety demonstrations and hands-on activities.

The “Letterboxing Trail” provided by Warren County Planning Department offers a self-guided walk in the woods.  During the scheduled mushroom walk at 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30, discover mushrooms growing in their natural habitat. Learn techniques used to identify mushrooms, discuss various medicinal values, precautions to take and delicious ways to prepare some for a glorious feast. The plant walk focuses on finding and identifying traditional “weeds” while discussing the nutritional and medicinal values of each.  Back at the barn samples of these prepared herbs/weeds will be offered. The tree/forest walk is self-guided, get directions and chat with owner, Gary Martin about the walk, lumber, sustainable forestry, selective cutting and how environmental awareness saves forests.

Meet the artisans and shop at the barn: handmade soaps, mushroom products, recycled feed bags, author, pyrography, greeting cards, master gardener, quilts, lotions, jewelry, candles, wood work, Buy Nothing Project, flowers and treats made from the herbs found on the plant walk.  Demonstrations and hands on activities will be offered for all ages: make a mushroom oyster bucket, learn about bees and bee keeping, candle making, wood carving, blacksmithing, jewelry and beads, pyrography, rock painting and planting trees.
